Áine O’Connor

Áine O’Connor – MIACP (Accredited), RGN

Áine has been studying and working in the area of counselling/psychotherapy for the past ten years. She specializes in couple and relationship therapy, and is IACP accredited. She values working with both couples and individuals who find challenges in their relationships. Her style of counselling is firmly rooted in a person-centred approach which attests to the core values of empathy, congruence, respect and unconditional positive regard. She has also studied various other psychotherapeutic approaches, for example Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, CBT, 3 Principles, and incorporates this knowledge into the therapy. She is also developing a strong interest in neuro-science and how it informs Psychiatry, Psychology and Psychotherapy and how these scientific discoveries are influencing how we practice. Áine is very passionate about her work and believes in love, joy and compassion being the birthright of all people. She is eminently hopeful for people to grow in mind, body and spirit; to be the best version of themselves, and by extension a great person to be in a relationship with.

Áine has also been a registered nurse for over 30 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with diverse social and ethical dilemmas.  She has developed an appreciation for working with the whole person, and believes that it is necessary to explore her clients’ psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing in order to honour them and their unique experience of life.

H Dip. In humanistic psychotherapy and couples therapy (hetac level 8) awarded from St. Patrick’s college Maynooth. To ensure Reconnect remains creative, ethical, and up-to-date, Áine attends counselling supervision with a qualified supervisor, which is a professional requirement for all therapists.  Additionally, she regularly engages in continuing professional development courses to deepen her own self-knowledge and her professional knowledge.
